Airway Management Care at Home

Ocean Healthcare supports and cares for people who have airway management requirements including tracheotomy or mechanical ventilators.

Devon | Cornwall | Somerset

Caring for someone who needs support with airway management

We care for people who have special airway management needs; from support for those living with a tracheostomy through to those whose airway is maintained on a mechanical ventilator. Whether the tracheostomy was fitted because of an injury or another underlying condition the most critical aspect of living at home and managing an airway is to ensure that the tube is kept clean and free of blockages.

Managing an airway at home can be challenging but when cared for properly we know that living independently is very much achievable. Our nurse-led care teams have specialist training in tube fitting, tracheostomy hygiene and emergency care, and can undertake the following care at home:

  • Tracheostomy care
  • Tracheostomy changes
  • Tracheal suction
  • Ambu-bagging
  • Chest percussion
  • Administration of oxygen therapy
  • SAT monitoring

“Getting Ocean Healthcare in to help care for mum was the best decision for her and us.”

John | Dunn

“It means we still see her daily and she is in family surroundings.”

Personalised care for people with airway management needs

Our care teams receive specialist airway management training to meet all the clinical governance care competencies so we can be sure we are proving the highest quality care and safety.   If a person has a mechanical ventilator, then the carers will have additional training in ventilator care and management.

The care plan we devise for each person is specifically tailored to meet their individual needs. We work closely with each person’s medical professionals and their family to not only ensure their medical needs are met but also to support their well-being and emotional needs are met.
