  • What is complex care and what does Ocean Healthcare Complex Care provide?

    Complex care is the care of someone who has significant, continuing medical, behavioural or social needs or a combination of these.  This type of care is for anyone of any age whether they were born with a condition or disability, have developed an illness as they have aged or acquired complex needs due to an injury.

  • Do you care for babies, infants and children?

    Yes, we care for tiny infants from when they are discharged from the neonatal until right through to being teenagers and adults. The care we provide adapts as they grow get bigger and start to explore the world. To find out more visit our Infants & Children page.

  • Do you care for teenagers, adolescents and young people?

    Yes, we care for young people right through their teenage years and beyond into adulthood. The care we provide changes to meet both their physical, emotion and social needs and is regularly reviewed.  To find out more visit our Young People page.

  • Do you care for adults and older people?

  • Do you care for people with dementia and mental health needs?

  • Who provides Complex Care in England?

    The NHS is the principal provider of care for people with an identified complex care need. Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) arrange care which can be provided in a care facility such as a nursing home or hospital or persons own home.


    Your Local Authority (council) may also provide some services.

  • How is Complex Care funded in England?

    Complex care funding is through the NHS and its Clinical Commission Groups (CCGs).   To be eligible for NHS Complex Healthcare, an individual’s main or primary need must relate to their health.  Local Authority (council) funding is means tested.

  • How do I arrange care?

  • What clinical services can you provide?

    Our nurse-led teams care for babies right through to adults and those at the end of their life. Clinical care includes respiratory and airway support, like tracheostomy or ventilator management, feeding support including PEG feeding, pain and medicine management and catheter, bowel and stoma care.

  • What is your clinical structure?

    Ocean healthcare Complex care is run by a senior management team with over 50 years of nursing, Complex Care and management experience.  They are passionate about delivering the highest quality of care and enabling children and adults to live their best lives at home.

    Our care teams are managed by nurses and experienced team leaders in each area who have access to and are supported by the senior management 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • Can you provide 24 hour care?

  • What is a complex carer able to do for me?

    Our carer’s are able to provide care for medical or mental health needs alongside personal care and domestic help.

  • How is complex care managed at home?

    We work closely with the person for whom care is for, their families and any medial professional involved in their care. A bespoke care plan that meets both their medical and well-being needs is devised and is regularly reviewed. 

  • What is a care plan?

    Every person we care for as an individual care plan. They are bespoke and tailored to an individual’s medical and clinical needs but also take into consideration any personal, social and well-being need they have.  All our carers work to these plans and they are reviewed regularly as a person’s needs change.

  • Will I have a regular carer?

    Yes, you or your loved one will have a regular care team who have are matched to them based on the specific medical and clinical needs and skills required to give them the best care.

  • How quickly can care be set up?

    We can put care and support in place quickly and in many cases within 24 hours depending up on the clinical needs.  Our care teams currently work across Cornwall, Devon & Somerset.

  • How much experience do your carers have and how do you train them?

    All our carers go through a rigorous interview process to ensure they have the skills, experience and understanding of providing complex care in an individual’s home. We require carers who join us to have at least a year’s formal care experience. All carers complete our induction training programme, which goes above mandatory requirements. In addition they receive bespoke training from our Registered Nurse team and other healthcare professionals to ensure they can care for people with a specific condition or care need. Our cares then have their competencies signed off before attending a client.
