Turn Up for the Tough Moments. Stay for the Life-Changing Ones.
Support children and young people with complex needs in and around Plymouth. Challenging work, deeply rewarding - and you won’t do it alone.
At Ocean Healthcare our Support Workers do something extraordinary. This is complex care done properly. Real relationships, real support, real purpose.
You’ll be supporting children and young adults with a wide range of medical and sensory complex needs, including learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, behaviours that challenge and sometimes restraint-based care.
No two days are the same. You might be helping someone manage their anxiety through a transition, diffusing a difficult moment, or creating space for families to do things others take for granted - like sleep, work or spend time with siblings.
“You won’t get a round of applause. But you might get a breakthrough. And that’s everything.”
You’ll work as part of a small, focused team. Sometimes one-to-one, sometimes with others - supporting children and young people in their family homes or in their own properties. All with training, supervision and real support from our nurse-led team
Some of the children and young people we support live in their family homes. Others live in their own properties staffed 24/7 by Ocean Healthcare teams. In either case, this isn’t just care. It’s daily life.
For some, it’s about stability. Feeling safe in their space. Knowing who’s coming through the door. For others, it’s about confidence - getting back out into the community, trying new things, reconnecting with what brings them joy.
That might look like a trip to the beach. A quiet walk. Cooking dinner. Managing anxiety around public spaces. Or simply being around people who are calm, consistent, and don’t give up when things get tough.
That’s where you come in.
We’re looking for people who bring reliability, resilience and a willingness to learn -because for these children and young adults, progress doesn’t happen overnight. But when it happens, it’s everything.
When you show up with patience and purpose, you help build a better routine, a safer space and a life that feels more like theirs.
We know how tough this work can be. That’s why we don’t leave you to do it alone.

You’ll never be out there on your own. Our clinical team will make sure you’re trained, prepared, and supported - before you start and as you go.
Never unsupported. You’ll often work one-to-one in the home, but you’ll always have guidance from our clinical team, clear care plans and a team that checks in with you regularly.
Absolutely. If you’ve got solid care or support experience, we can train you in any additional areas you need - including working with children or managing behaviours that challenge.
