Experienced Care Assistant to support a 20-year-old man living with a spinal injury in East Portlemouth, near Salcombe. Various shift options available, including Days, Nights, Early shifts and Twilights. 7 days a week.

Ocean Healthcare is looking for an experienced Care Assistant to provide support for a 20-year-old man living with a spinal injury. He is a wheelchair user and will be residing in the beautiful coastal area of East Portlemouth, near Salcombe.

He requires full assistance with all transfers and repositioning, personal care and a range of clinical tasks that form part of his daily routine. This includes catheter care, bowel management, cough assist, limb stretches, splints and supporting the use of his BiPAP machine overnight.

Your support will play a key role in helping him live safely, comfortably and as independently as possible throughout the day and night.

Shift Details:

  • Day Shifts: 08:00 – 20:00

  • Night Shifts: 20:00 – 08:00

Additional shorter shifts:

  • Early Shifts: 06:00 – 11:00

  • Twilight Shifts: 19:00 – 23:30

Pay Rates:

  • Monday–Thursday

    • Day: £14.50 p/hr

    • Night: £14.80 p/hr

  • Friday

    • Day: £14.50 p/hr

    • Night: £15.05 p/hr

  • Saturday & Sunday: £17.05 p/hr (all shifts)

  • Bank Holidays: £20.05 p/hr (all shifts)

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing all personal care

  • Assisting with wheelchair transfers and repositioning

  • Supporting safe, comfortable day-to-day living

What We’re Looking For

  • Confident, compassionate, and dependable

  • Minimum 1 year of care experience

  • Experience with spinal injury care or Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD) is highly desirable

  • Someone who is attentive, proactive, and committed to delivering high-quality care

The ideal candidate will be a confident, calm and proactive Care Assistant with experience supporting adults with physical disabilities or complex clinical needs. Experience with spinal injuries or autonomic dysreflexia would be highly beneficial, but full training and ongoing clinical support will be provided. You’ll be someone who is patient, strong in your moving-and-handling practice and able to deliver consistent, attentive care across a 24-hour routine.
