PLYMOUTH
Care Assistant required to support a man in his 30s with a Spinal Cord Injury (and AD) in Plymouth. Some work is based on a farm. 24 hour shift (including sleeping night).
Ocean Healthcare are looking for an experienced Care Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a man in his 30s with a Spinal Cord Injury (C5-C6). He is a wheelchair user and requires support with catheter care. He lives at home in Plymouth with his dog and cat. He is very independent and active and requires support to do the things he wants to which includes working on a farm.
During the day he needs someone to be on-hand to provide support and to ensure that he remains safe. This includes monitoring for Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD) and intervention if required. AD is a condition that results in a severe and potentially dangerous rise in blood pressure. You need to be an experienced and confident Care Assistant, but full training and support relating to AD and other aspects of supporting with Spinal Cord Injury will be provided.
Shift Details:
Day & Sleeping Nights - 7 days a week
Note: We are looking for someone who can cover 24-hour shifts which would include a sleeping night. This is not live-in care. Ideally you'd be able to cover 2 or more shifts per week. However, each 24-hour shift may not be consecutive.
Pay Rates:
£14.50 p/hr Mon-Fri
£17.05 p/hr Saturday - Sunday
£20.05 p/hr Bank Holidays
£80 p/shift for Sleeping Night

What We’re Looking For
An experienced and confident care assistant
Experience with Spinal Cord Injury (including AD) would be very helpful, but not essential
A flexible person who can fully engage in his lifestyle and provide support when needed
Willingness to work on a farm
Able to connect with a 30-year old young man
The ideal candidate would be confident and personable. You'll be an experienced Care Assistant competent with manual handling and preferred experience with spinal injury, but not essential as full training provided.
What You'll Need

You must be a car driver
Reliability and good communication
Right to to work in the UK (We do not offer Work Visa)
